CYOB: THE EXPERIENCE!

Hello everyone!!!

On the week of July 6, 2020, my brother and I, have done a summer camp called CYOB (Camp in Your Own Box) in a nearby Presbyterian Church.

The topic of the camp this year is Compassion. Compassion as defined by Merriam Webster is sympathetic consciousness of others’ distress together with a desire to alleviate it.

Compassion for me, is when you see someone hurt, you feel their hurt, and you try to comfort their hurt!

Where can we show our compassion?

The camp was on weekdays for one week, and during those days we talked about being kind to ourself and others.

Then we would do some activities like colouring prayer sheets and making glass marble magnets.

Our day starts with a song and a prayer, and a Bible passage/reading and discussing about the day’s reading. I love how our leaders always asked us about our thoughts and ideas for what the day’s Bible passage means to us.

Below are some of the things that we did during our CYOBox camp:

  • A centrepiece (A decoration in the middle of an object, such as flowers in the middle of a table.
  • Magic nature wands made out of some string and a stick.
  • A “STAY SAFE” card to mail.

The camp is amazing! Here are some of our photos:

Us colouring our “Doodle Art” pieces…
Us playing together with Rebecca during our afternoon campfire. We finish the day with a song too.

  1. Celeste, thank you so much for sharing your experience of CYOBox on your blog! You so clearly describe the things we learned about compassion and provided a lovely taste of what we created and accomplished throughout the week. I imagine anyone reading this blog post will wish they got to be part of camp, too! I hope you’re able to continue to do your own versions of the crafts and activities this summer, and that you keep singing and playing our camp songs on your ukulele!
Can’t wait for our next camp adventure together!

    1. Hi Rev. Rebecca,
I shared the experience of CYOB because I wanted other kids to know that it is a great camp and that it is good for them to join camps like it. CYOB is great! Thank you and Sarah for being our counsellors!!!
I can’t wait to see you again!
